I was quite uneasy when I wrote ‘Compulsion’, I had no work and I didn’t know when I’d next get some. I was just writing every day, trying to look at the lack of work as an opportunity to stay focused on music. I was writing a lot of melancholy music, slow down-tempo kind of stuff. Then one morning I stumbled across this beat while I was playing the keys. And it turned that unease into energy - a lot of it! I just ended up dancing around the studio (my garage at the time) for most of theafternoon.

From there, the fun track slowly evolved into more of a statement on the time in history we have been born into. Empowering and limitless in opportunity to learn anything you want, but also incredibly disempowering and unbalanced when it comes to financial stability andopportunity.

When TEI. came in to record, it was insane. She completely shows me up on that track, her verse is the highlight for me. It was exactly what I was hoping for. I love our combined energy.
