Hahko Meets Paul Cathro

At 18 years old I moved to Dunedin and encountered my first ever music scene, one that impacted myself, and I would argue Aotearoa, immensely.

Lalizarin Lizard, The Biff Merchants, Thundercub, A Distant City, Brown, The Maybe Pile, Anthonie Tonnon & The Finance Company, Feastock & the list goes on and on. Something truly special happened in Dunedin & I was lucky to have front row seats, my own personal ‘Dunedin Sound’.

From Left to Right: Paul Cathro, Hahko

Paul was a big part of that community, a playful songwriter with a penchant for heavy & light footed guitar songs, his taste and music had always struck a chord with me & his band Alizarin Lizard is one i think about to this day.

So it was a pleasure to get Paul on the couch to not only talk about those Dunedin days, but also his influences, lifestyle & singing in a kiwi accent, all while making me laugh and slowly undressing.
